Igniting Minds, Fueling Futures.

The Catalyst Approach to Literacy

At the core of my work is this belief: students learn to read and write well by engaging with authentic, meaningful texts and tasks—the same kinds of reading, thinking, and writing that real readers and writers do outside of school.

When students work with texts that matter, literacy becomes more than a school skill. It becomes a source of confidence, curiosity, and joy, helping students understand not only what they’re reading and writing—but who they are and how they want to communicate in the world.

What students need to excel IN:

READING

Becoming a strong reader is about far more than decoding words on a page. In my work with students, five elements consistently matter most:

CREATIVITY

Reading is not passive. Students do things with texts - discussing, imagining, sketching, rewriting, debating, and making connections. Creative engagement builds joy and helps students see themselves as active participants in meaning-making.

WRITING

Strong writing is not about rigid formulas or filling in blanks. It grows out of reading, confidence, and purposeful practice.

FOUNDATION

Every strong writer begins by absorbing language, structure, and voice from real texts. Reading shapes both skill and identity.

Betty, TX

"Mrs. W was the perfect choice for SAT prep course. She is passionate and builds an incredible rapport with the students. You can tell she does this because she is driven in helping the student succeed. She was a fantastic partner to build confidence for my child that was prepping for her PSATs. Our daughter is now ready to rock her SATs later this year."
